I’m putting together a list of things that can be done to improve your web sites chances of being raked favourably in Google, Yahoo, Ask, Live and other search engines.. Google and Yahoo should really be your focus as these two search engines dominate the market.

Submit to Google (search google for add url)
Submit to Yahoo
Search for directory’s on your subject and submit to them
Chat in forums related you your subject and add your web site address to your signature
Start eBay listings (although you can’t post your site address you can still advertise your business name!)
Comment on blog posts (high PR blogs are best!)
Sign up with Stumbleupon and stumble your web site
Sign up with Twitter and micro blog about what your site is doing
Create a Facebook page for your site/business and add your friends
Sign up with Linkedin and build a profile

Create a blog using WordPress and keep it updated
Sign up with Technorati and claim your blog
Write informative articles and submit them to article directory’s
Enable Google image search on your site and label your images using keywords
Start a forum either on your site or via Blogger.com and link it to your site
